DISCIPLINARY RULES
In order for learning to take place at Prescott Central Middle School a structured, well defined, and properly maintained discipline program must be in place. Teachers and administrators are responsible for establishing,
monitoring, and enforcing a code of conduct with fairness and good judgment.
The following guidelines are established to enforce a code of conduct, to assure appropriate behavior, and discourage misbehavior. Minor disciplinary offenses will be administered by the classroom teacher.
1. Tardiness to class
2. Failure to have assigned work and materials
3. Chewing gum
4. Defacing school/personal property
5. Cheating, profanity, or any other vulgarity
6. Disruptive behavior or failing to follow classroom rules
7. Being discourteous or disrespectful to adults or peers
8. Having unauthorized electronic devices at school (radios,
head phones, CD players, electronic games, etc.)
These items will be sent to the office and can be
reclaimed by parents only.
9. Buying, selling, trading, swapping, or borrowing between students
10. Not taking home notes or papers to be signed and returned
11. Running, putting hands and feet on other people
12. Not entering and exiting designated areas of the school building
13. Inappropriate behavior in the classroom
14. Dress code violations
The above violations will result in one or more of the following disciplinary
actions by the classroom teacher:
1. Demerit
2. Theme writing (related subject area)
3. Assigned after school detention
4. Assigned academic assistance (in area work is not completed)
5. Notify parent(s)
6. Parent conference
Continued minor violations will result in that student being sent to the assistant
principal's office for the following disciplinary action:
1. Assigned detention after school
2. Lunch/recess detention
3. In school suspension to complete assignments
4. Corporal punishment if approved by the parent (Parent will be
called before corporal punishment is administered.)
5. Out of school suspension
6. Disciplinary hearing
7. In school suspension
Major violations of rules or procedures will result in the students being sent to
the assistant principal's office on the first offense for the following:
1. Bus conduct referrals
2. Stealing
3. Gambling
4. Leaving school property without permission
5. Damage to school property
6. Threats or harassment to anyone
7. Fighting
8. Possession of any type of tobacco or smoking paraphernalia,
lighters, firearms, weapons, explosives, explosive devices,
chemicals, drugs, drug paraphernalia, alcohol, or any
item that would be considered dangerous to anyone
9. Consumption of drugs or alcohol
10. Inappropriate language, written material, or graffiti
11. Sexual harassment/assault
12. Continued misbehavior
13. Refusing to do assigned classroom work
14. Assault to teachers or peers
15. Forgery
Major violations will result in the following disciplinary action by the school
administration:
1. After school detention
2. In school suspension
3. Corporal punishment
4. Parent conference
5. Out of school suspension
6. Expulsion
7. Filing charges with local police department
8. Alternative school placement
**** NOTE: If a student is suspended out of school or expelled from school for
more than ten (10) days, the student and/or parent/guardian has the right to
appeal. This appeal will be to the Putnam County Board of Education in
writing within ten(10) school days following the suspension or expulsion.
All Putnam County policies, rules, and regulations regarding student behavior
will be followed. Students are encouraged to use the "Not In My School
Program," Crime Stoppers, or report to teachers or administrators any rule
violations or inappropriate behaviors.
